Kindergarten

A magical woodland outdoor setting

Our outdoor woodland setting based at The Quex Park in Birchington

has been lovingly designed to give young children contact with nature and the outdoors, throughout the seasons. Our safe, secure and dedicated outdoor woodland area, set amongst the trees, has a magical wooden building lovingly named ‘The Hobbit House’. This gives children the choice to be indoors with more ‘traditional’ nursery resources including puzzles, stories and blocks. Heating for the winter has been installed as well as blankets and cushions for afternoon naps and a washroom with toilets. The kindergarten also has apple and plum trees, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, rhubarb and seasonal vegetables and herbs. This setting is open 38 weeks of the year, term time only.

Children registered at the kindergarten, visit the on-site Manor House Forest School farm daily, to feed and care for the animals. Activities outdoors are always hands on, exploratory and exciting, utilising natural resources and following children’s interests.

A number of areas have been designed with the children including a dinosaur island, bug hotel, mud kitchen and reading area. An outdoor clay oven and dining room gives children the wonderful opportunity to experience cooking with the staff.

The opening hours are 8.30am - 4.00pm, enabling parents to access the 15 hours of Government funding, giving each child 2 full days. Another option is to add on more days, if children are eligible for up to 30 hours, all free of charge. (Please see our fees and funding section within the All About Us tab). Staff include a qualified teacher (QTS) and all staff have undertaken Forest School Training, first aid and safeguarding.
